Tatum Ego

UC Berkeley Undergraduate Intern and Medical Assistant

Current UCI Medical Student

Tatum worked as an undergraduate intern and subsequently as a medical assistant throughout her undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley and full-time during her one gap year before medical school. She currently attends medical school at UC Irvine School of Medicine.

I learned so much about a multitude of medical diagnoses, bedside manner, and great patient care while working with Dr. Zand and Dr. Paula. Adina Greene

Adina worked as a medical assistant at Zand Dermatology during her gap year between her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. She matched into dermatology residency in March of 2025 and is completing her 4-year training at HonorHealth in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“What stood out most to me at Zand Dermatology was the culture of mentorship and genuine support. Dr. Zand led by example, combining clinical excellence with a kind, thoughtful approach to patient care that left a lasting impression on me. Watching her build trust with patients while maintaining such high standards of care solidified my interest in dermatology. Courtney Chang

My name is Courtney and I’m currently finishing my nursing degree in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program at San Francisco State University. I’m excited to begin my nursing career in the Bay Area, with interests in cardiac telemetry, the operating room, and labor and delivery, and possibly returning to dermatology in the future.

"I started at Zand Dermatology as an intern and later became a medical assistant, working there for over two years. During that time, I learned how to work in a fast-paced, hands-on clinical environment and gained experience with a wide range of dermatologic conditions and procedures. As I grew in my role, I also had the opportunity to mentor and help train new medical assistants, which was especially meaningful to me. My experience at Zand helped me build strong patient care and communication skills, and it played a big role in preparing me for my future career in nursing. I’m very grateful for the supportive team, the learning opportunities, and the relationships I built along the way."

"This internship with Dr. Zand was one of the most impactful experiences in my professional development. It was a rewarding clinical opportunity where I closely shadowed the physician and interacted with patients. Over the course of several months, I assisted during every patient exam. As a result, I learned a great deal about medical care and accumulated hundreds of clinical hours. Dr. Zand is an outstanding mentor, generous with both her medical knowledge and professional advice. She encouraged me to design my own project for the office, and supported me through my medical school applications. Because of her guidance, I improved both personally and professionally. There are few clinical opportunities that provide as valuable of an experience, and I am incredibly grateful for my time at Zand Dermatology."

"Working with Dr. Zand was such a unique, privileged experience. This was much more than any old shadowing experience. Dr. Zand has so much patience with mentoring her interns and goes above and beyond to teach them invaluable knowledge you cannot learn in the classroom. She helped me develop my professionalism and bedside manner. Dr. Zand seized every opportunity that she came across to teach me something new, whether it be during an exam with a patient, while completing chart notes, or even in a passing conversation. The environment Dr. Zand establishes for her interns is very welcoming and productive. She understood the position I was in as a premed student and encouraged me every step of the way. We developed an mentorship where I could even turn to her for advice on medical school applications, my vision as a future doctor, and life in general. Sophie A. Greenberg, M.D., F.A.A.D

Residency: Columbia University/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital
Field: Board-Certified Dermatologist, Medical & Cosmetic Dermatology

Sophie graduated cum laude from Princeton University before earning her M.D. from Columbia University, where she received the F. Lowenfish Prize in Dermatology for her research. She completed her internship at California Pacific Medical Center and dermatology residency at Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian. A practicing artist and published medical illustrator, Sophie brings a keen aesthetic eye and holistic approach to medical and cosmetic dermatology. She currently practices in Manhattan.
