Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Q & A

How does fractional ablative laser resurfacing work?

  • Our top of the line laser uses SmartXide DOT technology to stimulate skin rejuvenation. Utilizing the technique of controlled injury, this laser triggers collagen production which tightens the skin. It treats small areas, vaporizing tiny colums of skin, while intentionally leaving areas of normal skin untouched. This reduces the risk of complications and speeds up healing time. As a result of the gentle ablation of the skin, new collagen is formed which leads to a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and improvement in color, texture, and tone caused by sun damage and acne scarring.

What is the Madonna Eye Lift?

  • The Madonna Lift is a non-surgical alternative to reducing the wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. It dramatically tightens the upper and lower eyelids, giving your eyes a younger look. Also called a Fractional Eye Lift, this is accomplished by the use of our cutting edge fractional CO2 laser.

When will the first results be visible?

  • In the first few weeks following treatment, patients can expect to see significant improvement in freckling, sun spots, and hyperpigmentation. Over the next few months, there will be a noticeable tightening of fine lines and wrinkles due to increased collagen production. The full effect of the treatment will be seen in 6-12 months as collagen stimulation continues to tighten and lift the skin.

How many treatments do I need?

  • Laser resurfacing is performed in a series of three 30-60 minute treatments, spaced about 1 month apart.

How long do results last?

  • The results after laser resurfacing are considered permanent, but of course they will diminish with the natural aging process. Patients may choose to repeat this treatment in 3-5 years.

What is the downtime?

  • Downtime varies by person, but in general, social downtime will be around 3 to 5 days due to redness and flaking. After this time, any irritation can easily be concealed with makeup. All patients are advised to avoid the sun as much as possible for one week after treatment and to wear/reapply sunscreen.

How is fractional resurfacing different than other lasers?

  • The results from ablative fractional lasers are significantly more dramatic than with non-ablative lasers, which may have less downtime but also less tightening. Compared to older fully ablative CO2 laser technology, our fractional ablative laser eliminates negative side effects such as pain requiring anesthesia, prolonged scabbing and swelling, and risk of scarring.
