Whether it’s your first time getting Botox or you’re a Botox veteran, choosing an injector is a very personal and potentially intimidating decision. Finding an experienced reputable injector takes research. We have ALL been there, and here at Zand Dermatology we want to help you make the most informed decision when deciding who to trust with your beautiful face!
To help answer some introductory questions and ease any anxiety, I have compiled a list of questions patients commonly ask me to help you feel knowledgeable, confident, and ready for your appointment at Zand Dermatology.
Botox is a neuromodulator that is administered into muscles via injection. It works by temporarily inhibiting your muscle’s ability to contract, which in turn helps soften and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The degree of muscle inhibition is controlled by the dose administered and the specific placement, which is why choosing the right injector is so critical to achieving your desired results.
Most injectors use the same technique for every patient, which is a lost opportunity to customize your treatment and maximize your symmetry, facial harmony, and beauty. We design our Botox injections in a way that allows for full expression. I think this is really important. It’s actually quite easy to make a forehead look frozen - but most people want natural movement, along with minimized lines, and we can achieve that result for you. Practically speaking, we use the least amount of Botox units necessary to achieve your desired outcome - which helps keep cost down as well.
The specific look/outcome of your treatment is based on your own personal preference. As injectors, both Dr. Zand and I specialize in natural-looking aesthetics in which we help our patients achieve beautiful, natural results. We take a “less is more” approach while ensuring you are attaining the desired outcome of your treatment. Your preferences and feedback are SO important to us and our main objective is to help you achieve the ‘look’ you desire.
Unfortunately there is no magic cream, serum or wand that has the same effect as Botox. A well-rounded skincare regimen consisting of SPF, antioxidants, and Retin-A can help you age gracefully, combat free radical damage, hyperpigmentation, and the progression of fine lines. But unfortunately no amount of skin care can actually erase wrinkles like Botox can.
Botox is used to treat dynamic wrinkles, meaning lines that form with movement. Botox can be used to soften:
Botox can also be used to help treat TMJ/grinding pain in the jaw, hyperhidrosis in the axilla, headaches/migraines.

There is little to no downtime after the treatment. While bruising is not expected after your Botox treatment, it can sometimes happen! We recommend daily application of arnica gel and arnica tablets. Additionally, we recommend avoiding any strenuous exercise until the following day.
Unlike fillers that provide immediate volume and plumping to the skin, Botox takes 7-14 days to take full effect. Each patient is unique, and some patients may notice some effects sooner than this timeline. We recommend having your treatment done three-four weeks before any big event in case a touch up is needed.
While long-lasting softening of fine lines, wrinkles, and muscle contraction can be seen with consistent botox administration, botox is only temporary. We recommend scheduling your botox appointments every 3 months to help maintain your results and keep you looking refreshed and well-rested. Let us help you keep up your investment!
